So my first product review in over a year is for this trailer hitch plug. Are there really differences consumers should know about when it comes to hitch plugs? Turns out there are….After an opportunistic bottom-feeder decided to steal the hitch plug that came with my new SUV, I needed to find a replacementSince I am sometimes weird about these things, I spent a while looking at and reading reviews for several hitch plug options here on Amazon before purchasing one (not this one). When I received it, I was concerned about how flexible the rubber was. It looked like decent quality, but sure enough, when I stuck it in the hitch, there was almost no friction to keep it there. The rubber simply bent inward wherever the ridges are that are supposed to press up against the sides of the hitch. This also created gaps where water and dirt could easly get in around the edges of the plug. And the square end cap part was really big. Probably stuck out 3/4 inch on all sides past the edge of the hitch. Functionally I suppose that’s OK. But in 2024 is it enough for a product to simply be functional? Shouldn’t it also be aesthetically pleasing? This reviewer says “yes.”I got back into the trailer hitch cap market and found this one. And it’s perfect IMHO. It is a very stiff and durable rubber material. It fits SNUGLY into the hitch. There is no way this thing is going to come out unless somebody decides to take it out. The square end cap part is finished in a nice semi-smooth texture that looks good, and also provides some grip. And the square end cap is sized so that it does not extends way beyond the edges of the hitch…it sticks out just over 1/4”. This looks great and still provides more than enough of a “lip” to be able to easily remove it.If you need a trailer hitch cover I recommend this one. I may pick up some spares to have on hand when someone decides to steal this one off my car.
