I bought this to protect my cowboy hat while traveling on airplanes, and it did that job superbly! The box fits easily into the overhead compartment on aircraft. The box is lightweight, yet quite sturdy, and the elastic straps inside make it easy to stow almost any size hat with a brim. If the brim of your hat is curved down (like one with a “bullrider’s” brim where the front and back of the brim dip down), you won’t be happy with the strap system and may wish to put a block under the hat, but otherwise, it will hold just fine. The box is actually tall enough to accommodate two hats with flat or soft brims (like a traveling hat), when the second hat is stacked directly on top of the bottom hat.My only disappointments were with the optional carrying strap and the wide elastic luggage handle strap across the back. One of the cheap metal clasps on the carrying strap broke while walking with the box carried over my shoulder. Had I rigged it as a backpack, like shown in the advertisement, I would have dropped it completely. As it was, I was able to catch the box and, from then on, carried it using the permanently attached carrying handle. I will replace the original metal clasps with small carabiner type clasps, which are what should have been used originally.The elastic luggage handle strap on the back of the case is worthless. It is supposed to slide over the handle of your luggage to make securing the box easy; what a joke!!! It will not secure the box to a luggage handle because it simply isn’t sturdy enough; the box flops around and will not stay in place. The manufacturer needs swap this strap out for a sturdy canvas or nylon strap like found on laptop computer cases. Those straps slide tightly over luggage handles and hold securely. Don’t expect this one to work, and you can’t swap it out yourself.However, if you are looking for a good travel box to protect your hats, this one is well worth the price.
