On the water, these Short Spey rods deliver a combination of performance and castability, with blanks designed to dampen vibrations, making every cast easier and more accurate. The Mission series is made up of 10 rods, from 11′ Switch and Trout Spey rods to 13’6″ Full Spey models. Blanks are matte black with orange accents, and each has a quick rod identifier. We have added composite cork on the grip in high-wear areas. Each rod is finished with REC RECOIL® snake guides, a Ti stripping guide with SiC insert, and a down-locking, self-indexing machined aluminum reel seat with a burl hardwood insert. And it’s all served up in an orange tube with a Mission signature sock. Orvis was really on to something with this new design of a shorter than full-spey but longer than switch rods. An excellent blend of power, comfort and performance. The final version of the Orvis Mission Short Spey Fly Rods were introduced is October of 2025 and included some nice hardware upgrades to the prototypes we fished in ’24. The REC Recoil guides are a super nice touch as they really resist ice build up on those cold, Steelhead mornings! The reel seats are also beautiful and add to that pride of ownership with these rods. We took the 127-4 and 128-4 to BC and put them to the test with various lines, tips and flies and they performed superbly on the rivers in the Skeena system.
